Carrie Underwood's new album, Cry Pretty, may just be her most emotionally-involved yet, as the country singer revealed in a recent interview.
"I think we cover a lot of ground. This has been my first experience co-producing, and I feel like we just threw the rulebook out the window and went where the music wanted us to go," the Grammy-winning artist said. "There’s a lot of emotion on the album, a lot of soulfulness. We have a little fun, too, but it’s just something that I’m very proud of because I feel like I’m more in this album than I’ve ever been before."
In speaking of the tone of her new LP, Underwood explained that, unlike the vengeful pulse beating at the heart of songs like 2006's "Before He Cheats" and 2016's "Dirty Laundry," the tracks on Cry Pretty paint a much happier ending for the 35-year-old musician. "You know, I don't think I kill anybody off on this album," she joked. "I think it’s a different kind of drama ... it’s a little more real-life and I feel like just me and where I am in my life."
Although the LP, arriving next month, features some guest musicians, fans needn't be on the lookout for any "straight-up duet-type of situations" on Cry Pretty. However, when asked what her dream collaboration would look like, Underwood said, "I would love to work with more females, to be honest."
She added: "I feel like there’s so much talent and so many up-and-coming female artists that are absolutely amazing. I’d love some giant girl collaboration and get a lot of us up there doing our thing."
Cry Pretty releases September 14 and while the deets are undisclosed at this time, Underwood teased a tour to support the record is happening sooner than we know: "We’re not quite ... there are just so many things that literally we’re working on until the last minute until we can release it out into the world, making everything perfect."
In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled: the American Idol winner will be hosting the 2018 CMA Awards alongside Brad Paisley on November 14.
